02-19-2024  – The JH-CIDID is excited to share that Drizzle Health won the $50,000 MassChallenge  HealthTech award in Boston on February 8th, 2024!

MassChallenge (MC) looks to support high-impact, high-potential startups, with a viable path to success and some traction in their commercialization plan. MC

selected Drizzle Health amongst 5 award winners across different categories, from a total pool of 1135 applications.

Drizzle Health is building scalable sampling tools for One Health – affordable and accessible bacterial diagnostics for

Tuberculosis (TB) in humans and E.coli in food and water systems. Drizzle’s first product is the MagnaSlide. The

performance in sputum from people living with HIV with presumptive TB in an on-going study in Chennai shows

performance comparable to a nucleic acid amplification test, but at 1/10th the cost. Importantly, an independent

regulatory firm in India has found it to be in the lowest regulatory burden (Class A)—Drizzle has already received

numerous pilot validation requests because molecular diagnostics have poor availability and significant cost. Co-Founders

Digvijay Singh and Bonolo Mathekga are Johns Hopkins Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design(CBID) graduates from India and South Africa.

In collaboration with CBID and Biomedical Engineering Department, the initial technology and product development for MagnaSlide was done at the

Center for Innovative Diagnostics for Infectious Diseases.
